Daredevil: Born Again's Shocking Twist Explained: Why [SPOILER] Had Foggy Killed

Warning! This article contains spoilers for Daredevil: Born Again episode 8.
Daredevil: Born Again episode 8 ended with a climactic twist, one that reveals Foggy Nelson"s death was at the request of another major character. The ending of Daredevil: Born Again episode 7 seemingly ended Muse"s storyline for good in the show. After Muse almost killed Heather, Matt rushed to her rescue only for Heather to kill the serial-killing vigilante herself, setting up a big final two episodes for Daredevil: Born Again"s ensemble cast.
As it turns out, the reveals of Daredevil: Born Again episode 8"s ending went far beyond those pertaining to Muse"s storyline. The return of villains like Benjamin Poindexter, aka Bullseye, brought the tragic events of Daredevil: Born Again episodes 1 and 2 back to the fore, with Matt picking up some breadcrumbs about Foggy"s death. This led to a gala led by Mayor Fisk with Matt in attendance, as the stage was set for a massive finale. This was led by the reveal that Foggy"s death was not a random killing by a raging madman, but an orchestrated murder at the behest of a central Daredevil character.
Matt Learns Vanessa Fisk Hired Bullseye To Kill Foggy In Daredevil: Born Again Vanessa Is At The Center Of The Web, Not Kingpin Close In Daredevil: Born Again episode 8, it is revealed that Vanessa was the architect of Foggy"s death from episode 1. Initially, Matt - and everyone else - assumed Bullseye"s rampage was a result of his unhinged madness, with the villain seeking revenge against Matt, Karen, and Foggy for their role in bringing him down in Daredevil season 3. However, Matt learned that this was not true, thanks to a hint from his old friend: Josie. Daredevil: Born Again episode 8 sees Matt reaching the apex of his season-long crisis, returning to Josie"s after realizing his law-centric efforts are "babysitting chaos."
There, Josie insists she, Matt, and Cherry finish a glass of O"Melveny"s. O"Melveny"s is the whiskey Foggy and Matt made it a tradition to drink after winning a case, with Matt confused as to why Foggy was doing so on the night he died. Matt realizes that it was because Foggy was celebrating early regarding a case for his client, Benny, who was also one of Bullseye"s victims that night. Foggy would only be celebrating early if he was convinced beyond all doubt he was going to win his case, which was linked to threats Benny received over an Easter egg to Red Hook.

Posts Red Hook is the name of a port in Brooklyn, tied directly to Fisk"s projects as New York"s mayor and linked to his former criminal empire. As revealed in Daredevil: Born Again episode 8, Foggy"s client was somehow tied to all of this, yet the skilled lawyer was confident of a win. Bullseye was then hired to change things, killing Benny and silencing Foggy. Naturally, Matt"s immediate assumption is that Wilson Fisk was the one who hired Bullseye to kill Foggy, but a small detail in Daredevil: Born Again episode 8 alters this.
After being alerted that Bullseye has escaped from prison, Vanessa tells Wilson that she has something to tell him. Matt listens in and, after hearing her heartbeat quicken, realizes it was Vanessa behind the assassination of Foggy, not Wilson. This certainly makes sense, given that Vanessa was in charge of Fisk"s criminal dealings while he was away before Daredevil: Born Again episode 1. The reveal leads to a brief confrontation in which Matt asks Vanessa why she had Foggy killed, before being interrupted by a once more rampaging Bullseye.
Why Vanessa Wanted Foggy Dead Foggy Was Wrapped Up In The Red Hook Dealings Close Daredevil: Born Again episode 8 ends before Matt can get answers from Vanessa, but he wants to know the same things we do: why did Vanessa order Bullseye to kill Foggy? As I have alluded to, the answer lies at the heart of Foggy"s case with his client, Benny. Benny was tied to Red Hook in some way, which, before Fisk"s seemingly benevolent mayoral campaign, was integral to the infrastructure of his and Vanessa"s criminal empire.
Vanessa used Bullseye, with the latter killing several bystanders as a means of covering up the murders of Benny and Foggy as targeted ones...
Foggy"s early celebration of his case meant that he was confident of acquitting Benny of whatever he needed a defense lawyer for, which would have undoubtedly reflected badly on the Fisks. So as to not let these revelations come to light, Vanessa used Bullseye, with the latter killing several bystanders as a means of covering up the murders of Benny and Foggy as targeted ones. While the overall details of this case are unknown, it seems as good a reason as any for Vanessa to want Foggy dead.
Beyond that, Vanessa could have simply been killing two birds with one stone, so to speak. Silencing Foggy was clearly one motivation for Vanessa"s hit, but revenge could have been another. Foggy was integral in the downfall of Wilson Fisk in Daredevil season 3, something that caused Vanessa"s marital problems and their empire to be less effective than it once was. This, and Matt"s actions as Daredevil, could have led Vanessa to kill Foggy to punish him, Matt, and Karen, all while covering up her illicit dealings in Red Hook.
What Vanessa Having Foggy Killed Means For Daredevil: Born Again The Show's Story Has Been Altered Forever As expected, the reveal that Vanessa had a hand in Foggy"s death is huge for Daredevil: Born Again. In terms of immediate consequences, it will have a bearing on the finale of Daredevil: Born Again season 1. Matt has been shot due to Bullseye"s attempt at killing Fisk, potentially meaning that even Poindexter was unaware it was Vanessa who hired him, rather than Wilson himself. All of this will likely be addressed in the finale, with each element linking back to Vanessa"s plot.
On a broader note, Vanessa"s assassination attempt could be linked to a massive theory that Foggy"s death was faked in Daredevil: Born Again. Foggy is one of the more intelligent characters on the show, and it is hard to imagine him getting himself wrapped up in a case involving the Fisks without knowing it. As a result, Foggy could have known his life was in danger and somehow faked his death, but this is simply conjecture at this point. Nonetheless, a random killing would render a fakeout harder to pull off than a premeditated murder that Foggy was aware of.
Foggy"s actor, Elden Henson, has been confirmed to appear in Daredevil: Born Again season 2, potentially lending credence to this theory.
Finally, Vanessa"s actions will undoubtedly have an impact on the resurgence of both Daredevil and the Kingpin. Matt will certainly be on the warpath now that he knows Vanessa had a hand in Foggy"s death, which will subsequently put him at odds with Wilson. The resurgence of Daredevil will only continue now that Matt has a cause to fight for, in turn, causing Kingpin to rise to meet him in Daredevil: Born Again season 2, especially if Vanessa is in danger.

Posts All of this promises a massive change in the status quo for Daredevil: Born Again. Before now, Foggy"s death was treated as a random accident, with the focus of the show being on outside factors causing Matt and Fisk to return to their old ways and reignite their feud. Now that Vanessa has been confirmed as the architect of Foggy"s death, though, Daredevil: Born Again has given its lead characters a much more personal interest in the brewing chaos that Matt is continually struggling to babysit without the help of the Man Without Fear.
